Sold mine before leaving Argentina, because importing a car to Europe sounded like a full-time job.

Lars, we're facing the same question for our move to Spain. Everyone we've asked says the same thing: selling in Sweden and buying in Spain is usually simpler than importing, because of the registration, the inspections and the taxes involved. We've decided to sell, mostly for our own sanity.

We sold ours before leaving Pakistan, and I don't regret it at all.

Driving a foreign-registered car long term usually has time limits after you become resident, and registering it locally can involve inspections and taxes. The Driving section of each country guide covers importing and registering a car, for example the Driving section for Portugal, and it's worth checking before a deadline, not after.
