Grandparents coming for long visits — how do you handle it practically?

My parents are coming from Pakistan for three months this autumn. It's the first time they'll stay with us here, and I'm happy, and also a little anxious about the practical side.

Things I'm thinking about: their visitor visa and health insurance, the cold (they've never seen a Canadian winter), what they'll do all day while we're at work and school, and space, because our flat is not big. My mother also has a regular medication, so I need to make sure she brings enough and has the prescription.

For those who've had parents or grandparents stay for a long visit: what did you arrange beforehand, and what do you wish you'd thought of? And how did you keep everyone sane in a small space for three months?
