I lost about three weeks because I didn't realise one registration had to happen before everything else could. What's the sneaky appointment or step that people don't know is on the critical path?
Is there a single definitive checklist anyone's found, or does everyone genuinely have to piece this together from threads like this one?
Grace — never found one definitive source, pieced it together from exactly this kind of forum thread plus a very patient local colleague.
An appointment specific to retirees that nobody flagged to us until a neighbour mentioned it in passing — retirement status apparently changes which registrations apply.
following, taking notes for my own move
A specific insurance registration deadline tied to arrival date, not move-in date — caught me out since those were weeks apart for me.
This whole thread should honestly be pinned somewhere, genuinely useful collection of traps.
OP here — the pattern of "one hidden step blocks everything downstream" seems to be nearly universal based on this thread, good to know it's not just me.
In Ireland it was the PPS number for me. Without it the pharmacy couldn't put me on payroll properly, and nobody mentioned it during the recognition process because it's a different office entirely.
With school-age kids, watch this one: the school registration needed a document from the town hall that could only be issued after the address registration, which needed the rental contract signed by the landlord, which... you see where this goes. Start the chain the day you get the keys, not the week before school starts.
Tax number before phone contract, in my case. Learned that one at the phone shop.
