Shipped far too many books we now have nowhere to put and never got around to reading anyway. Would leave most of them behind if we did it again.

OP here — the kitchen-gadget-versus-books pattern seems to be a running theme, good to know it’s not just me who got this calculation wrong.
Sue insisted on bringing our electric blanket "just in case", and I mocked her for the entire drive down through France. That blanket was the most valuable thing in the van come January. My regret: forty years of paperwork I was too nervous to shred. It's still in a box in the spare room, still unopened.
Paolo is right about the knives. And good pillows. We slept badly for a month on the rental ones before admitting defeat.
