Dentist costs blindsided me — how do you budget for this?

Turns out dental isn't covered the way I assumed, and one filling cost me a small fortune. Nobody warns you that 'healthcare' and 'dental' can be two completely separate worlds here. How do you budget for teeth — private dental insurance, a treatment fund, or flying home for the big stuff?

Ben, a calm dentist above a pharmacy sounds like the dream. I'll ask the neighbours next time before assuming the worst.

mexico has been great for dental honestly, but we checked the dentist's credentials properly first and asked around a lot. cheap isn't the point if it has to be redone

We're weighing up a dental plan for Spain against paying as we go. At our age we're likely to need more work rather than less, so I suspect the plan wins. Did the retirees here find that dental plans covered older patients properly, or were there age limits?

Our plan in Spain had no age limit, but some exclusions for existing work. Read the list carefully.

Ben's written estimate tip saved me from a very surprising bill last month.
