Neighbour and noise rules that are stricter than I expected

I got a very polite but very firm note about doing laundry on a Sunday, and apparently there are quiet hours I'm expected to just know. It's a whole social contract in the building I wasn't handed a copy of. What house/neighbour rules caught you out, and how did you find out what they even were?

Got a similar note. Learned the building rules were posted somewhere I’d never have thought to look — the entrance noticeboard, of all places.

Quiet hours got me too, nobody tells you until you’ve already broken them.

I ask the letting agent directly for a written summary of house rules upfront now — standard step for me ever since my own version of this incident.

“the social contract nobody hands you” is a painfully accurate way to put it

Do these rules tend to be building-specific, or more of a general local norm? Hard to tell which one I’m actually dealing with.
