Opposite direction for me — I came from a very direct culture and found the local indirectness the harder thing to decode. Same learning curve, different starting point.
The way people disagree in meetings here floored me — blunt to the point I thought colleagues were angry, when it's just normal. Elsewhere I've heard it's the opposite, all indirect politeness you have to decode. The actual job I can do; it's the workplace culture that's the real learning curve. What blindsided you about how work works here?
