Classic catch-22: you need a bank account to rent, and an address to open a bank account. How did you actually break the loop when you arrived? Did a digital bank tide you over?
A digital/EU bank got me through the first weeks — opened before I even landed, no local address needed. Then I switched to a local bank once I had the rental contract. Don't wait to sort the "real" account before you arrive.
Some banks accept a temporary address (a friend's, an aparthotel) to get you started. Ask in person — the rules are less rigid than the website suggests.
The tax/ID number was the real unlock for me, not the address — once I had that, the account followed. The Money and Documents sections list what your country actually asks for; check the order, it caught me out.
Digital bank first, local second, and don't stress the local one until you've got your rental. That sequence saved me a fortnight of frustration.
