Pavel, we moved our savings from Germany to Sweden for a deposit last year. What made the biggest difference was comparing the actual amount that would arrive, not the fee. For a large sum, a small difference in the exchange rate matters much more than the transfer fee. Two other things: ask your bank directly whether they offer a better rate for large transfers, because ours did when I asked, and check the daily limits well in advance. We nearly missed a deadline because of a limit we didn't know existed.

We're moving a chunk of savings over for the flat deposit and initial costs. Between exchange rates and bank fees the estimates I'm getting are eye-watering. What did you actually use to move a larger sum?
