Which neobank actually worked for you as a newcomer?

Before my local account came through I leaned on an app-based bank to survive the first weeks, but they're not all equal — some choked on verification, some had rubbish exchange rates, some froze funds at the worst moment. Which one actually carried you through the newcomer gap, and where did it let you down?

An app-based bank handled my verification quickly, but the exchange rate was rough — traded speed for cost, which felt like the right call at the time.

Same experience, verification was the real bottleneck for me too.

Mine froze funds briefly during a routine check — unnerving in the moment, but resolved within a few days.

OP here — thanks all, compiling the pattern of trade-offs everyone’s describing, very useful.

Following, currently mid-verification-limbo with mine.

Mild disagreement — I think neobanks get overrated as the default. A local account opened fast enough for me and skipped the whole detour entirely.

Does anyone keep the neobank running long-term, or fully drop it once the local account is properly sorted?

Kept mine for the exchange-rate convenience on international bits, but stopped relying on it day to day once I had a local account.
