Job offers in two countries — how did you choose?

A good problem, but a real one. My postdoc in Sweden ends next year, and I now have two offers for the next step: a longer research position in the Netherlands, and a faculty-track job in Canada. The Canadian job is better on paper. The Dutch one is closer to everything I've built here, and a much smaller move.

I keep making lists and they keep ending equal. Salary, research fit, visa route, winter (both have plenty), the chance to stay long-term, and the question of whether I want to start again, alone, on another continent at thirty-four.

For those who chose between countries: what actually decided it for you? Did you regret it, and what do you wish you'd weighed more heavily?

The regret question is going in my notes for every decision from now on.
