For anyone reading this later: in our case my husband was included on the main application rather than applying separately afterwards, which made the whole thing simpler. Not every route allows that, so it's one of the first questions I'd ask. The relationship evidence point is spot on. We were asked for more than we expected, even after years of marriage.
Update, as promised: my wife's visa was approved last week. It took a bit under two months from submitting, for what that's worth, and they didn't ask for anything extra. Very glad we built that folder early.
