MyMalta / eID (Electronic Identity)
Malta's national digital identity system, built around the Maltese ID card's chip-based eID functionality. The MyMalta digital platform (servizz.gov.mt) provides access to hundreds of government services using the eID. The eID is embedded in the Maltese ID card and eResidence card — EU citizens can use their card's chip for online authentication.
How to get it: The eID is built into your Maltese ID/eResidence card. To use online: enrol at an Identità office (MITA — Malta Information Technology Agency). For mobile use: download the MyMalta app and link your eID. You need a PIN to activate the digital signature functionality of your card.
E-Government Portal
https://servizz.gov.mtMalta's e-government portal (servizz.gov.mt) is reasonably comprehensive but variable in quality. The CFR (tax) online portal is well-developed and widely used. Identità online services have improved but high-demand services (eResidence card applications) require in-person appointments. Transport Malta and Planning Authority online services are functional. The overall digital government experience is improving but lags behind the Scandinavian or Estonian standards. The servizz.gov.mt master portal provides access to most services in one place.

Despite Malta's small size, digital infrastructure is reasonable for daily life. The key gap compared to northern European countries is the e-government experience — many processes still require in-person visits or paper documents. Identità (formerly Identity Malta) has the most important but sometimes slowest online services. For tax and business registration, the CFR and MBR portals are well-developed. Mobile internet and broadband quality is generally good in urban areas. 5G is available from GO and Epic in most populated areas. Rural Gozo areas have less consistent mobile coverage.
