One day off. Government offices, banks and many businesses closed. Most street food and tourist services remain open.

Vietnam shuts down almost entirely from 16 February through 23 February 2026 (Year of the Horse). Tet Eve is 16 February. The country enters a week-long holiday — most shops, restaurants, businesses, banks, hospitals (except emergency) and government offices close. Book everything well in advance. HCMC becomes quiet as millions return to their home provinces.

First day of the Year of the Horse. Families visit eldest relatives, burn incense at altars, visit pagodas. Cities are almost empty and quiet. All businesses closed.

Second day of Tet — visiting maternal relatives. Continued business closure nationwide.

Third day of Tet — visiting friends. Most businesses remain closed.

Fourth day of Tet — official end of public holiday, but many businesses remain closed until Day 7 or beyond.

Tet extended holiday — government grant of additional compensatory days often extends to 23 February.

Extended Tet holiday period — expats should plan all banking, administration and healthcare needs before Tet begins.

Last day of typical Tet closure. Most businesses and government offices resume from 24 February 2026. International private hospitals and major supermarkets reopen earlier. ATMs may run out of cash during Tet peak — withdraw beforehand.

Commemorates the legendary Hùng Kings, founders of the Vietnamese nation. Official date: 10th day of 3rd lunar month = 26 April 2026 (Sunday) — observed Monday 27 April. Government offices and banks closed. Major ceremonies at Hùng Temple in Phú Thọ Province.

Celebrates the fall of Saigon and reunification of Vietnam in 1975. Major public holiday with military parades in HCMC and Hanoi. One day off — often linked with May Day to create a 4–5 day mini-holiday. Book transport and accommodation well in advance for this period.

International Workers' Day. Combined with Liberation Day (April 30), this creates a multi-day national holiday. Banks, government offices, schools closed. Heavy domestic travel — book ahead.
