Public Transport Overview

Taxi & Rideshare

App taxis are the safest default in Tbilisi and Batumi. Street taxis often require negotiation and can overcharge foreigners.

Rideshare (Long-distance)

Bolt and Yandex Go are widely used. Confirm plate number, set destination in the app, and avoid off-app payment changes.

Cycling

Cycling infrastructure is limited and driving behaviour can be aggressive. Recreational cycling is growing but commuting by bike requires caution.

Intercity Trains

Rail is comfortable for Tbilisi-Batumi and some westbound routes. Mountain areas often require marshrutka, car, or private transfer.

Driving

Driving is on the right. Speed limits: 20 km/h in residential zones, 60 km/h in populated areas, 90 km/h on rural roads, 110 km/h on motorways. Road quality varies sharply; mountain routes, animals, overtaking, winter conditions, and night driving are key risks.

Airports

Tbilisi International Airport is the main airport, with Kutaisi for low-cost regional flights and Batumi for Black Sea access. App taxis are usually cheaper than airport touts.
