Many European, UK, US, Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, Gulf, Latin American and Asian passports can enter Montenegro visa-free for up to 90 days in a 180-day period. Montenegro is not in Schengen, but it applies its own 90/180 stay rules; always verify the current official list before travel.
Montenegro is outside the EU and Schengen but is an EU candidate. Do not assume Schengen residence rights apply. Registration of tourist stay, paper originals, sworn translations, health insurance, police certificates and proof of accommodation are recurring bottlenecks.

Digital Nomad Temporary Residence (Privremeni boravak digitalnog nomada)
Digital NomadForeign nationals who work electronically for a foreign employer or own a foreign company not registered in Montenegro. Minimum income: €1,800/month (vocational education) or €2,400/month (bachelor's degree or higher) — equivalent to 3× Montenegrin minimum wage. Income must come entirely from foreign sources. IMPORTANT: The current Montenegro digital nomad programme is authorised until 31 December 2026. Apply no later than October 2026 (processing takes ~2 months). Future programme renewal status should be verified with the Ministry of Interior before applying.
