Waste management in Oman is managed by Be'ah (Oman Environmental Services Holding Company), established 2007 under the Ministry of Environment. Oman has made significant progress in sanitary landfill management and is working toward expanded recycling infrastructure under Vision 2040 sustainability goals. Household recycling bins (separate collection) are not yet universally available in all residential areas, though drop-off recycling collection points exist at selected locations. Major supermarkets and malls have recycling stations. Construction waste, hazardous waste, and electronic waste have designated disposal routes. Littering fines: OMR 50–100. The Be'ah app allows residents to locate collection points.

Special Disposal
E-waste collection points at Be'ah centres, Carrefour Oman, and Lulu Hypermarkets. Major electronics retailers (eXtra, Jumbo Electronics) run occasional take-back programmes. Computers, mobile phones, small appliances. Do not put in general waste — e-waste contains toxic metals.

Paint, chemicals, batteries, fluorescent bulbs: Be'ah hazardous waste centres. Not accepted in general waste bins. Contact Be'ah (1606) for collection or find nearest HHW facility at beah.om.
Oil/car fluids: some service stations accept for proper disposal.
Unused medications: return to pharmacy (Life Pharmacy, Al Zahrawi participate in take-back). Sharps/needles: special sharps containers, return to clinic or hospital. Do not flush down toilet.
Medication take-back schemes expanding under Ministry of Health guidance.
Contact Muscat Municipality (call 1250) or Be'ah (1606) for bulky waste collection. Construction debris: use licensed skip company (OMR 20–50 for small skip). Furniture: donate via dubizzle "free items" or expat Facebook groups.
Illegal dumping fine: OMR 100–500. Large construction waste cannot be placed with regular household waste.
Bulk Waste
Contact Muscat Municipality (1250) for bulky item collection (furniture, appliances, large cardboard). Some areas have designated bulky waste collection days — check municipality website. Free collection for most household items with advance booking.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- ! Putting all waste in one bin when recycling points are available nearby
- ! Discarding old mobile phones/electronics in general waste (illegal in most areas)
- ! Burning household waste — illegal and carries fines
- ! Illegal dumping in wadi (nature areas) — serious fine and damage to Oman's protected natural areas
- ! Not cleaning food from recyclable plastics/glass before depositing at recycling point
Fines & Enforcement
Littering in public: OMR 50–100. Illegal dumping of construction/commercial waste: OMR 100–500. Burning waste: OMR 100. Wadi/nature reserve pollution: OMR 500+. Fines issued by Muscat Municipality Inspectorate and ROP environmental officers.

- → Donate unwanted clothing to mosques, charities (Dar Al Atta'a), or expat community groups rather than discarding

- → During wadi trips: carry out ALL waste — Oman's natural wadis are protected and littering is a serious offence
