Bolivia (BO)

Required for all foreign nationals. Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond intended stay. Needed for all immigration, banking, tax and property transactions.

Bolivian ID card for foreign residents issued by SEGIP (Servicio General de Identificación Personal) after residency is approved. Replaces passport for daily identification within Bolivia. Required to open bank accounts, sign leases, and register at SIN.

Issued by the Dirección General de Migración (Cancillería) for temporary or permanent residence. Required for employment, long-term rentals, property purchase, and SIN registration. The temporary permit is issued for 1–2 years; permanent after 2 years.

Tax identification number issued by SIN (Servicio de Impuestos Nacionales). Required for any commercial activity, freelance work, or invoice-generating business. Also needed for importing goods and some banking operations.

Required for residency applications. Bolivian police clearance (FELCC) needed for local residents. Foreign applicants must provide clearance from their home country and any country where they have lived for 2+ years. Must be apostilled and translated into Spanish.

Required for family reunification visas, school enrolment, marriage in Bolivia, and citizenship applications. Must be apostilled and officially translated into Spanish by a sworn translator (traductor jurado) registered with the Ministerio de Justicia (Tribunal Departamental de Justicia).

Required for spousal/dependent visas, property co-ownership, and inheritance matters. Must be apostilled and translated into Spanish by certified translator.

Required for professional licence recognition (homologación) through MINEDU (Ministerio de Educación). Must be apostilled by the issuing country (Bolivia is a Hague Apostille member) and officially translated into Spanish by a sworn translator registered with the Tribunal Departamental de Justicia.

Required for employment-based residency visas. Must be issued by a Bolivian-registered employer. The employer must simultaneously apply to the Ministerio de Trabajo for the foreign worker authorisation.

Mandatory vehicle accident insurance certificate. Required for all vehicles and for the annual Revisión Técnica Vehicular (RTV). Available at insurer offices and some fuel stations.

Annual mandatory vehicle technical inspection certificate. Required for licence plates to remain valid. Available at authorised RUAT/municipal inspection centres.

Pension fund registration certificate from the Gestora Pública de la Seguridad Social de Largo Plazo. Required for formal employment — employer registers new employees within the first month.

Caja Nacional de Salud (CNS) card issued to formal workers and their dependants. Provides access to public healthcare system (posta sanitaria, hospitals). Employer registers workers with CNS on hiring.

Bolivian notarial power of attorney required for property transactions, company registration, and legal proceedings when you cannot be present. Must be executed before a Bolivian notary (notaría de fe pública).
