Digital Services

Digital ID, e-government and essential apps in Cayman Islands.

Cayman Islands Government eServices (no unified digital ID)

The Cayman Islands does not have a single unified digital identity system equivalent to Estonia's e-Residency, the UK's GOV.UK One Login, or Oman's OmanPASS. Government services are delivered through separate departmental portals, each requiring its own account registration. Key portals include: WORC (work permit applications and status), DVDL (driving licence and vehicle registration), DCI (business licensing and trade licences), Customs (duty payment and import declarations), and the Lands and Survey Department (title searches and transactions). Physical presence is still required for most significant processes including first permit applications, driving licence conversion, and land title transfers.

How to get it: Register separately on each departmental portal as needed: worc.gov.ky for work permits, dvdl.gov.ky for driving licences, dci.gov.ky for business licensing, customs.gov.ky for duty payments. Each portal has its own credential system. Some services require in-person attendance at the relevant government office in George Town even after online registration.

E-Government Portal

https://www.gov.ky

Digital coverage in Cayman government is improving incrementally but remains uneven across departments. Many high-stakes processes — including work permit renewals, licence conversions, statutory declarations, and land title transfers — still require certified physical documents, notarised copies, or in-person attendance at the relevant office. Keep well-organised scanned PDFs of all your key documents (passport, permit, lease, employment contract, utility bills) in a secure cloud folder for rapid submission when portals request attachments. Prepare certified copies in advance during quiet periods rather than scrambling when a deadline arrives.

Zoom / Microsoft Teams

Free
Work

Essential for remote workers, financial services professionals, law and accounting firms, and anyone maintaining client or family relationships with home-country contacts. Cayman's strong internet infrastructure (Flow fibre, Digicel 4G/5G) supports reliable video calls. Free tier (Zoom) or included in Microsoft 365 subscription.

Maintain both a Cayman mobile number (for local bank OTPs, WORC portal SMS, and CUC/Water Authority account access) and a way to receive home-country authentication messages year-round. Before switching entirely to a Cayman SIM, verify that your home-country bank, tax authority (HMRC, IRS, CRA, ATO), and investment platform support app-based two-factor authentication (authenticator app or email) rather than SMS-only OTPs — losing home-country SMS access can lock you out of critical financial and tax accounts. Consider a virtual home-country number (e.g., UK Skype number, Google Voice for US) as a backup for SMS reception. Keep home-country banking, tax (HMRC, IRS, CRA), national insurance, and pension apps installed and logged-in alongside Cayman apps — you will need them regularly for filing, contributions tracking, and tax residency self-certification even while living in a zero-income-tax jurisdiction.
