Use MTPE job services and local employment centres for orientation, but expat professional hiring is usually through LinkedIn, recruiters, direct company networks and bilingual referrals.

Expat eligibility: Foreigners need regular migration status and appropriate work authorisation. Formal employees must be on payroll (planilla), and foreign-worker contracts may need labour-authority handling depending on category.

💼 Work Permits

EU Citizens

EU citizens do not have automatic work rights in Peru. They need the same immigration/work authorisation framework as other non-Peruvians unless covered by a specific bilateral or regional rule.

Non-EU Citizens

Most foreigners need a resident or temporary quality that authorises work, such as trabajador residente, trabajador designado, familiar residente with work rights, investor or other applicable status. Tourist status is not a work permit.

EU Blue Card

Peru has no EU Blue Card equivalent.

Freelancer Visa

Independent work is possible under worker-resident routes when you can document service contracts, recibos por honorarios and tax/social compliance. Peru has no simple standalone digital-nomad visa in force.

⏱️ Work Culture

Typical hours 48 hours per week remains the legal maximum for many private-sector roles, though professional office jobs often run Monday-Friday.

Annual leave 30 calendar days of paid annual leave for employees after one year of service in the general regime.

Sick leave Medical leave is documented with certificates; EsSalud subsidy rules can apply after employer-paid initial periods.

Trial period Standard probation is commonly three months, with longer periods possible for trusted/specialised roles if legally documented.

Notice period Notice and severance depend on contract type and dismissal grounds. Unfair dismissal can trigger indemnity.

Salary range Lima professional roles vary widely: S/3,500-S/8,000/month mid-level, S/10,000-S/25,000+ senior multinational/mining/finance roles. Many local jobs pay far less.

Pay frequency Monthly salary, usually with July and December gratificaciones for employees in the general labour regime.

📝 Application Tips

CV format: Spanish CV of 1-2 pages. Include CE/passport status only if relevant; avoid oversharing documents before verifying employer legitimacy.

Cover letter: Expected

Language: Spanish is required for most local roles. English helps in mining, NGOs, tourism, education, tech, finance and multinational firms.

Interviews: Warm but hierarchical. Titles, referrals and trust matter. Salary may be discussed later than in US/UK-style processes.
