Permanent Residency
Name
Special Resident Retiree's Visa (SRRV)
Eligibility
Open to all nationalities aged 40 and above (minimum age lowered from 50 to 40 effective 1 September 2025). Requires a valid Philippine bank deposit. The SRRV Classic is the main category; a Courtesy subcategory exists for former Filipinos, diplomats, and military personnel.
Duration
Indefinite — permanent residency-level privilege. Annual PRA membership fee required.
Requirements
- ✓Minimum age: 40 years (effective 1 September 2025)
- ✓Valid passport
- ✓Medical certificate from PRA-accredited hospital
- ✓Bureau of Immigration (BI) Clearance Certificate (new requirement from 2025)
- ✓NBI Clearance and/or Police Clearance from home country (apostilled)
- ✓SRRV Classic bank deposit (effective September 2025):
- ✓ — Ages 50+: USD 15,000 (with pension of USD 800+/month) or USD 30,000 (without pension)
- ✓ — Ages 40–49: USD 25,000 (with pension) or USD 50,000 (without pension)
- ✓Funds must be remitted from a bank account in applicant's name outside the Philippines
- ✓PRA application form and photos
- ✓Marriage certificate if accompanied by spouse
- ✓Application fee + annual membership (verify current amounts at pra.gov.ph)
SRRV is the most accessible long-term residency for expats. Not full PR in the citizenship sense — it does not lead to citizenship. SRRV holders cannot own land but can own condominiums and work in the Philippines without an AEP in their own business. Deposit figures changed significantly effective 1 September 2025 — always verify current thresholds at pra.gov.ph before applying.

Citizenship
Name
Philippine Naturalisation
Eligibility
Foreigners who have resided in the Philippines for at least 10 years (reduced to 5 years if married to a Filipino for at least 1 year, or with minor children who are Philippine citizens). Must intend to reside permanently.
Duration
Minimum 10 years continuous legal residence (5 years for spouses of Filipinos)
Requirements
- ✓Minimum age: 21 years old
- ✓10 years (or 5 years) legal residence with valid visa
- ✓Good moral character — NBI and police clearances
- ✓No criminal convictions
- ✓Financially capable of supporting self and family
- ✓Enrolled children in Philippine schools (must learn Filipino/local dialect)
- ✓Knowledge of Filipino language and Philippine history (informal assessment)
- ✓File Petition for Naturalisation at Regional Trial Court (RTC)
- ✓Publication of petition in Official Gazette and newspaper of general circulation
- ✓Hearing at RTC — 2 years after filing
- ✓Oath of allegiance ceremony
Philippine naturalisation is a judicial process — filed at the Regional Trial Court (RTC). It is notoriously slow (5–15 years total process including publication and hearings). Citizens by naturalisation must renounce previous citizenship. An alternative fast-track applies to those who served in the Philippine military or are of Filipino descent (RA 9225 — Citizenship Retention and Re-Acquisition Act allows Filipinos who naturalised abroad to reacquire Philippine citizenship).
Other Routes to Residency & Citizenship
Spouse of Filipino Citizen (13a) → Naturalisation
Eligibility
Foreign spouse married to a Filipino who has held 13(a) visa for 5 years.
Duration / Outcome
5 years continuous residence (reduced from 10-year standard)
Requirements
- ✓PSA-authenticated marriage certificate
- ✓5 years of legal residence under 13(a) visa
- ✓Same moral character, language, and financial requirements as standard naturalisation
Fastest naturalisation path. Still requires RTC judicial process. After naturalisation, Philippine citizen spouses may sponsor each other abroad for migration.
Former Filipino Citizen — RA 9225 Reacquisition
Eligibility
Filipino citizens who became naturalised citizens of another country and wish to reacquire Philippine citizenship.
Duration / Outcome
3–6 months processing
Requirements
- ✓Application at Philippine consulate or BI
- ✓Proof of Filipino citizenship (old passport, birth certificate)
- ✓Foreign naturalisation certificate
- ✓Oath of allegiance to Philippines
Under RA 9225, former Filipinos can reacquire Philippine citizenship while retaining their foreign citizenship — the Philippines recognises dual citizenship for reacquired citizens. Not applicable to originally foreign nationals.
SRRV (Long-term Residency, Non-Citizenship)
Eligibility
All nationalities, any age
Duration / Outcome
Indefinite (annual membership fee)
Requirements
- ✓Bank deposit
- ✓Medical certificate
- ✓NBI clearance
- ✓Application fee
Not citizenship — but provides indefinite stay rights, exemption from annual BI reporting, multiple-entry privilege, and work rights in own business. The most practical long-term option for most expats not seeking citizenship.
🌍 Dual Citizenship
✕
Dual citizenship is not allowed — The Philippines generally does NOT allow dual citizenship for naturalised foreign citizens — they must renounce their previous citizenship upon naturalisation (Commonwealth Act 473). Exception: RA 9225 applies only to former Filipinos reacquiring Philippine citizenship — they may hold dual citizenship. Foreigners who naturalise as Filipinos must give up their original nationality under Philippine law (though their home country may or may not recognise this renunciation — de facto dual citizenship may result if home country does not require renunciation).
