Payment Culture
Cash is widely used, especially outside major cities. GCash and Maya (PayMaya) e-wallets are dominant for digital payments. Visa/Mastercard accepted in malls, hotels, and restaurants in Metro Manila and Cebu. Bring cash for wet markets, jeepneys, and smaller establishments.
ATM Tips
ATMs are widely available in malls and cities. Foreign cards often incur ₱250–₱350 fees per withdrawal. Withdraw larger amounts to minimise fees. BancNet is the local interbank network. Avoid standalone ATMs in tourist areas — use those inside banks or major malls.
Exchange Tips
Currency exchange centres (Bangko Sentral-accredited) offer better rates than airports. Wise and Revolut are cost-effective for transfers. Avoid unauthorised street money changers.
