Payment Culture

Cash is still very important outside central Tirana and tourist areas. Cards are accepted in hotels, supermarkets, malls and many restaurants, but small shops, rural guesthouses, taxis and markets may expect cash.

ATMs are common in Tirana, Durres, Vlore, Sarande and larger towns. Fees on foreign cards can be high; withdraw larger sensible amounts from bank ATMs and decline dynamic currency conversion.
