Bahrain (BH)
A compact, English-friendly Gulf island state with no personal income tax, strong banking and professional services, liberal social norms by regional standards, and a practical base for Saudi Arabia via the King Fahd Causeway.
Healthcare in Bahrain
Bahrain has a mixed public-private healthcare system. Citizens rely heavily on public hospitals and health centres; expats commonly use employer-provided or private medical insurance and private clinics, with public emergency care available.
Good Gulf-standard care for routine and specialist needs, with complex cases sometimes referred abroad by wealthy families or insurers.

Accessing care
There is no strict GP gatekeeping in the private system; you can usually book directly with a general doctor or specialist.
Insurance may require referrals or pre-approval for imaging, surgery, physiotherapy, maternity, or expensive medication.
Call 999. Salmaniya Medical Complex is the main public emergency hospital; private hospitals also run emergency departments.
Private hospitals and urgent-care clinics handle evenings/weekends. Save your insurer hotline for pre-approval.
Pharmacies are widespread. Some medicines available elsewhere may require prescription or be controlled in Bahrain; carry prescriptions for imported medication.
Mostly private and often only partly covered. Routine check-ups BD 15-35; complex dental can be expensive.
Private psychiatrists and therapists are available, but insurance coverage varies. For crisis risk, use emergency services.
Private maternity packages are common; confirm antenatal, delivery, emergency C-section, neonatal care, and waiting periods before pregnancy if possible.
