Dual citizenship is allowed — The 2024 Cuban citizenship law (Gaceta Oficial No. 60) formally introduced an "effective citizenship" concept that recognises dual nationality. Foreign nationals who naturalise as Cuban citizens are no longer required to formally renounce their original nationality under Cuban law — Cuba now accepts that a person may hold another citizenship alongside Cuban citizenship. Within Cuban territory, Cuban citizenship is treated as the primary identity. However, your original country's law may or may not permit dual citizenship — check with your home-country embassy. Cuban-Americans and Cubans who emigrated and obtained foreign passports should be aware that Cuba may treat them as Cuban citizens regardless of other documents held.
