Visa-Free Access

Citizens of most countries can visit Cuba visa-free as tourists using a Tourist Card (Tarjeta de Turista) for up to 30 days (extendable once to 60 days total). This includes EU citizens, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, and most Latin American countries. Citizens of some countries require a standard visa in advance. US citizens are a special case: travel to Cuba is not prohibited but requires compliance with OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control) licence categories — most fall under "Support for the Cuban People" or family visit categories.

Cuba immigration (Inmigración) is managed through airports and the central immigration directorate. Always ensure your accommodation provider registers you with local police (PNR) within 24 hours of arrival — a legal requirement. Overstaying your authorised period can result in fines (approximately $300+ USD), deportation, and future entry bans. US citizens face additional OFAC compliance requirements — keep all receipts and documentation of activities in Cuba. Cuban immigration does NOT stamp passports; they stamp a separate insert. For residency-level stays, contact the Cuban embassy in your home country well in advance.

Eligibility

All tourists from countries eligible to visit Cuba for leisure, cultural activities, or family visits. Cuba replaced the tourist card (Tarjeta de Turista) with a mandatory e-Visa system from January 1, 2026.

Up to 72 business hours after online submission; apply at least 5 business days before travel

💡 The tourist card (Tarjeta de Turista) is no longer valid as of January 1, 2026. All tourists must obtain an e-Visa before travelling to Cuba. Extension (prorroga) for a further 90 days available at Inmigración offices in Cuba. Cannot be converted to a work or residency permit without leaving Cuba first. US citizens must also hold an OFAC licence — the most common categories are "Support for the Cuban People" and family visits.

Digital Nomad

Eligibility

Cuba does not offer a digital nomad visa as of 2026. Remote workers can only stay as tourists (max 60 days per stay). Reliable internet is extremely limited.

💡 Cuba has among the most restricted internet access in the world. ETECSA (state telecom) provides WiFi hotspots with prepaid Nauta cards (hourly rate). Reliable home or office connectivity is not consistently available for remote work. VPNs are legally restricted. This destination is not practical for digital nomads relying on consistent internet connectivity. The tourist card is no longer accepted as of January 1, 2026.
