🏛️ Social Contributions
State pension contribution. Administered by e-EFKA (Unified Social Insurance Fund). Income ceiling applies for calculation purposes.
Supplementary pension contribution. Combined with main pension for full retirement benefit.
Healthcare contribution funding EOPYY (National Organisation for Healthcare Services Provision). Covers primary care, specialist referrals, and pharmaceuticals for employees.
Funds unemployment benefit administered by DYPA. Entitlement after 125+ insured days in the prior 14 months.
Combined employee contribution rate across all branches. Employer total (on top of gross salary) is approximately 22.29%. Total labour cost = gross salary × 1.2229 approximately.
Self-employed persons pay a minimum fixed monthly EFKA contribution regardless of income level, divided across pension, healthcare, and auxiliary pension. Higher-earning self-employed may pay more based on income classification.
🛒 VAT Rates
Reduced rates of 17% (standard), 9% (reduced), and 4% (super-reduced) apply on certain Aegean islands designated as reduced-VAT zones (e.g. Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Dodecanese, cyclades). Check island-specific rules before pricing.

🌍 Special Expat Tax Rules
Greece offers several attractive expat tax incentives: (1) Non-Dom Lump Sum Regime (Article 5A L.4172/2013): foreign retirees or high-net-worth individuals who transfer tax residence to Greece and have not been Greek tax residents for the prior 5 of 6 years can pay a flat annual tax of €7,000 on all foreign-sourced income (regardless of amount), valid for 15 years. (2) Pensioner Flat Tax Regime (Article 5B): foreign pensioners who transfer tax residence to Greece pay a flat 7% annual tax on all foreign-sourced pension income for 15 years — valid for those not previously residing in Greece for 5 of 6 prior years. Applies in approved municipalities. (3) Article 5C New Resident Incentive: employed persons who transfer their tax residence to Greece (not resident for 5+ prior years) may get a 50% income tax exemption for 7 years on employment/business income earned in Greece. (4) Digital Nomad Visa holders who declare Greece as tax residence are subject to standard Greek income tax.
