Malaysia (MY)

Valid passport required for entry and throughout your stay. Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay. Required for all immigration transactions, Employment Pass applications, bank account opening, and mobile SIM registration.

Malaysia's primary work authorisation for skilled foreign professionals. Three categories: Category I (RM10,000+/month, up to 5-year pass), Category II (RM5,000–RM9,999/month, up to 2-year pass), Category III (RM3,000–RM4,999/month, up to 1-year pass). Applied for by the employer at the Expatriate Services Division (ESD) portal (esd.imi.gov.my). You receive a visa approval letter, enter Malaysia, and collect the EP sticker at an immigration office.

A 10-year renewable pass for highly skilled professionals in targeted sectors (oil and gas, electrical/electronics, financial services, ICT, education, and more). Allows holder and immediate family to work freely without further permits. Administered by Talent Corporation Malaysia (TalentCorp) — apply at talentcorp.com.my. Minimum salary RM15,000/month. Requires minimum 3 years of Employment Pass experience.

Malaysia's national digital identity card for citizens and Permanent Residents. For Permanent Residents: a special PR card (blue/red colour) is issued after grant of PR status. Contains biometric data, photo, and chip. Required for all domestic transactions once issued. Apply at Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN — National Registration Department).

Required for Dependent Pass (DP) applications, school enrolment and claims involving children. Malaysia is NOT a member of the Hague Apostille Convention; foreign birth certificates must be authenticated through the standard chain: notarisation in country of origin → home country Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation → Malaysian Embassy or High Commission endorsement. Certified translation into Malay or English required for non-English documents.

Required for Dependent Pass (DP) or Long-Term Social Visit Pass (LTSVP) applications for spouses. Malaysia is NOT a Hague Apostille member; foreign marriage certificates must follow the consular authentication chain: home country MFA attestation → Malaysian Embassy or High Commission endorsement. Certified translation into Malay or English required for non-English documents.

Required for Employment Pass applications (employer submits). Must be verified by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) for academic recognition. Original certificates required for verification. Certified translations into Malay or English required for non-English documents. Some professions require further recognition by the relevant regulatory board.

Required for Employment Pass applications and some visa categories. Must be conducted at clinics approved by the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JTIM-approved clinics). Includes blood test for communicable diseases, HIV test, and general health check. Typically required within 3 months of EP application submission.

Required for PR applications, MM2H programme, and some professional licensing. Must be from your home country and any country where you have lived for 12+ months in the past 10 years. Must be authenticated by the Malaysian Embassy in the issuing country. Typically valid for 6 months from issuance.

Required for Employment Pass applications. Must clearly state position, monthly salary (in RM), contract duration, and company registration number. Signed by both employer and employee. Employer must be a company registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM).

Required for MM2H applications and Dependent Pass applications where the principal applicant must demonstrate ability to support dependents. For MM2H: 3–6 months of offshore bank statements showing minimum monthly income of RM40,000 (2023 revised programme requirements). Must show regular income from salary, pension, or investments.

Malaysian income tax registration number issued by the Inland Revenue Board (Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri / LHDN). All employed individuals in Malaysia must register for income tax within one month of first employment in Malaysia. Required for e-Filing annual tax returns, property transactions, EPF withdrawals, and certain banking transactions. Register online at hasil.gov.my or at the nearest LHDN branch.
