Digital Services
Digital ID, e-government and essential apps in Singapore.
Singpass
Singapore's national digital identity system — the single sign-on platform for all government services and many private sector services. Foreign nationals receive a Singpass account upon receiving their Employment Pass, Dependant Pass, or Long-Term Visit Pass. Citizens and PRs use Singpass with their NRIC. Singpass is required for filing taxes (myTax Portal), applying for government schemes, signing contracts digitally (MyInfo integration), accessing CPF (for PRs and citizens), opening bank accounts, and accessing health records (HealthHub).
How to get it: Singpass registration instructions are sent with your work pass approval notice from MOM. The initial setup requires either: (1) Singpass app — download from App Store/Google Play, scan your QR code from the registration letter, and verify via face recognition; or (2) Singpass counter at ICA Building, selected ServiceSG centres, or Singapore Post branches. After initial setup, enable face ID or fingerprint login on the Singpass app. If you lose access, recovery requires in-person verification.
E-Government Portal
https://www.gov.sgSingapore consistently ranks in the top 3 globally for e-government maturity (UN E-Government Survey). The Smart Nation initiative drives digital integration across all government services. Most government interactions can now be completed online via Singpass without visiting an office — applications for passes, tax filing, business registration, and even CPF transactions for PRs and citizens are fully digital. ServiceSG centres at community clubs provide in-person assistance for residents who need help with digital services.

Check agent credentials via CEA registration on the platform.

Telegram
FreeIncreasingly popular for community channels, news, deals alerts (SGDealHunter, Lazada Singapore deals, SG food deals), and expat community groups. Supplement to WhatsApp for larger group channels.
myENV / NEA Singapore
FreeNational Environment Agency app — check the PSI (Pollutant Standards Index) haze level, 24-hour weather forecast, dengue cluster map (important for families with young children), and UV index. Essential on haze days or during mosquito season.
Singapore is one of the world's most digitally advanced nations — the Smart Nation initiative (smartnation.gov.sg) drives digital integration across all government and business services. Internet connectivity is near-universal (99.9% fibre coverage), with speeds typically 500Mbps–2Gbps. Mobile data coverage is excellent island-wide with no dead zones. Singapore's public WiFi network (Wireless@SG) is available at most MRT stations, community centres, hawker centres, libraries, and government buildings — connect via Singpass authentication. Key limitation: Singapore's cybersecurity laws are strict — VPN use is legal but some streaming services detect Singapore IP addresses and geo-restrict content differently.
