Singapore (SG)

Valid passport required for all immigration, banking, and many administrative processes. Bring your original and at least 3–5 certified photocopies. Singapore requires passport validity of at least 6 months for entry. Keep physical copies with your travel insurance card separately from your original passport.

Required for spouse and dependent visa applications, school enrolment, and sometimes employment. If your birth certificate is not in English, a certified English translation is required. Singapore joined the Hague Apostille Convention (effective October 2021); apostille from Hague member countries is now accepted. Non-Hague countries require notarisation through the Singapore embassy in the issuing country.

Required for Dependant Pass (DP) applications for spouses, joint bank account opening, property joint purchases, and CPF nomination updates. Must be an official government-issued certificate. Apostille required for countries that are Hague Convention members. Singapore does not recognise same-sex marriages (registered overseas or otherwise) for immigration purposes.

University degree certificates and transcripts are required for Employment Pass applications (MOM may verify directly with institutions for some applications), professional licence applications, and some regulated professions. Singapore has no central equivalency body for general purposes — most recognition is done by the hiring employer directly. For regulated professions (medicine, law, engineering, nursing), specific professional boards assess qualifications.

Your Singapore work authorisation issued by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). Keep the physical EP card with you at all times — it is your primary form of ID in Singapore (along with your FIN number). The EP is also required for opening bank accounts, registering for Singpass, applying for a mobile phone plan, and accessing government services. Store a scan of the front and back of your EP securely online.

Your 9-digit unique identifier as a foreigner in Singapore (format: G followed by 7 digits and a check letter — e.g. G1234567X). Printed on your Employment Pass and Dependant Pass. Required for tax filing, Singpass registration, banking, CPF (for PRs), mobile plan activation, and almost every government interaction. Once you have Singapore PR or citizenship, you receive an NRIC — a separate permanent identifier.

Required for bank account opening, utilities connection, and updating MOM records. Accepted documents: utility bill (SP Group / City Gas), bank statement, telco bill, or tenancy agreement. Your official Employment Pass address may differ from where you are living — update your address with MOM at ep.mom.gov.sg within 5 days of changing residential address (this is a legal requirement under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act).

Required for Dependant Pass applications for children, school registration, and CDAC/SINDA/MENDAKI community fund registration. For children born overseas, birth certificates should be apostilled (for Hague countries) or notarised through the Singapore embassy abroad. Primary school registration (Phase 1–3): required 1 year before school start; parents must submit birth certificates and PR/citizenship documentation to the school.

Not legally required for entry but essential for continuity of care. Bring documentation of chronic conditions, current medications (with generic drug names and dosages), vaccination history, and any specialist reports. Singapore's Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required for travellers arriving from Yellow Fever endemic countries. COVID-19 vaccination records may be useful for some travel insurance purposes.

Foreign driving licences can be used in Singapore for up to 12 months (for non-PR work pass holders) or until your licence expires (whichever is shorter). To exchange for a Singapore driving licence, foreign licences from most countries (including UK, US, Australia, Germany, Japan) can be exchanged without a full driving test — only a basic eye test and theory/basic theory test may be required. This must be done through SSDC, BBDC, or CDC (driving centres).

Important for managing portable pension entitlements. Singapore has totalization agreements with several countries — check if your home country's pension authority will count Singapore work periods. Keep records of contributions to national pension schemes (UK National Insurance, German Rentenversicherung, Australian Superannuation, Canadian CPP) as these may be claimed after leaving Singapore. Obtain a Statement of Contributions from your home country authority before departing.

Useful for demonstrating tax compliance history during Singapore PR and citizenship applications, and for managing double taxation. Keep the last 3–5 years of tax returns and notices of assessment from your home country. Singapore's IRAS may request foreign tax history when assessing tax residency status in the year of arrival.

Sector-specific professional qualifications (CFA, CPA, ACCA, medical board registration, PE licence, etc.) may be portable or require local equivalency review. Medical professionals must register with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC); lawyers with the Singapore Bar; engineers with the Professional Engineers Board (PEB). Most certifications require the originals plus certified copies. Singapore accepts CPA (US, Australia, UK — ICAEW/ICAS), ACCA, and CPA Australia as recognized qualifications.
