Visa-Free Access

Singapore's passport is consistently ranked one of the world's strongest (Henley Passport Index rank 2–4 globally with 192+ visa-free destinations). Conversely, Singapore is one of the most open countries in terms of visa-free access for inbound travellers — citizens of 162+ countries can visit Singapore without a pre-arranged visa on a Social Visit Pass. Most visitors from Western Europe (all EU member states), UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and ASEAN nations receive 30–90 days Social Visit Pass on arrival at ICA checkpoints. Citizens of the USA, UK, most EU nations, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan receive 90 days automatically on arrival. Citizens of ASEAN nations receive 30 days (or more by bilateral arrangement). Very few nationalities require a visa in advance — check the ICA website for the exact list. Singapore does not have a visa on arrival process — eligible travellers are admitted directly; others must apply for an Entry Visa through a Singapore Overseas Mission (embassy/high commission) in advance.

All Singapore work pass applications are submitted by employers (not individuals) through MOM's EP Online portal (epol.mom.gov.sg). There is no "walk in and apply" mechanism. The timeline from job offer to start work in Singapore: typically 6–8 weeks (employer posts job on MyCareersFuture 28 days + MOM processing 3 weeks + EP card collection + relocation). ICA (Immigration and Checkpoints Authority — ica.gov.sg) manages entry visas (Social Visit Pass), Dependant Passes, Long-Term Visit Passes, PR, and citizenship. MOM (Ministry of Manpower — mom.gov.sg) manages all work passes (EP, S Pass, Work Permit, EntrePass, WHP). Singapore has strict entry controls — overstaying any pass, working without authorisation, and immigration fraud carry severe consequences (see Alerts section). Employment Pass (EP)

Employment Pass

S$105 application fee; S$225 issuance fee (per MOM rate 2026)

Duration: Up to 2 years initially; renewals for 3 years at a time. Tied to the employing company — must be transferred when changing employers (new employer initiates the transfer).

Eligibility

Foreign professionals, managers, and executives with a specific job offer from a Singapore-registered employer. Minimum qualifying salary: S$5,600/month for most sectors; S$6,200/month for the financial services sector (2026 rates — rates are raised periodically). Must possess relevant educational qualifications (degree level or equivalent recognised professional experience) for the role. COMPASS (Complementarity Assessment Framework) scoring system applies from September 2023 — employers must demonstrate the candidate contributes to Singapore's workforce diversity and that fair consideration of Singapore citizens/PRs was given.

Processing time

Standard: 3 weeks. Expedited: not routinely available. An In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter is issued first; then the EP card is collected at MOM Services Centre. Employer submits application via EP eService at epol.mom.gov.sg.

Requirements

💡 The EP is the foundation of your Singapore legal status — all other dependent passes, driving licence conversions, and access to government services depend on a valid EP. Keep the physical card secure. If made redundant, you have 30 days to find a new role and transfer the EP — after that, you must depart Singapore. Changing employer: new employer must apply for a new EP; your current EP is cancelled. The Personalised Employment Pass (PEP) is available to those earning S$22,500+/month and allows employment flexibility without employer sponsorship — enquire with MOM.

S Pass

S$105 application fee; S$225 issuance fee. Employer also pays a monthly Foreign Worker Levy (FWL): S$550–650/month for construction, S$450/month for services sector (2026 rates).

Duration: Up to 2 years initially; renewals for 3 years

Eligibility

Mid-level skilled foreign workers (technicians, specialists, associate professionals) earning at least S$3,300/month (2026). Subject to sector-specific S Pass quota (construction, manufacturing, marine, services: 10–15% of total workforce). Requires relevant qualifications (diploma or degree) and work experience. COMPASS scoring also applies. Employer-sponsored — tied to specific employer.

💡 The employer bears the FWL (Foreign Worker Levy) on top of your salary — this makes S Pass workers significantly more expensive than EP workers for certain sectors. If earning above S$8,000/month on an S Pass, your spouse may be eligible for a Dependant's Pass. S Pass holders cannot self-employ or change employers without a new pass application. S Pass entitles the holder to apply for PR after holding the pass for 2+ years.

Work Holiday Pass (WHP) / Work and Holiday Visa

Work Holiday Pass

Duration: 6 months (non-renewable)

Eligibility

Young adults (ages 18–25 for most countries; up to 30 for some) from countries with bilateral Work Holiday agreements with Singapore: Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland, UK, and a few others. Allows working and holidaying in Singapore for up to 6 months.

💡 The WHP allows you to work for any Singapore employer during the 6-month period — a good way to experience working in Singapore. Not a path to PR or EP directly, but work experience gained counts toward future EP applications. Annual quota applies — apply early in the year.

Dependant's Pass (DP)

Duration: Tied to the principal pass holder's EP/S Pass validity period

Eligibility

Spouses (including common-law in some cases) and unmarried children (under 21 years old) of EP holders or S Pass holders earning S$8,000+/month. DP for spouse: EP holder must earn at least S$6,000/month (minimum for DP eligibility); children: same minimum applies. Financial sponsorship ability is assessed.

💡 DP holders cannot work in Singapore without obtaining a Letter of Consent (LOC) from MOM — the Singapore employer must apply for the LOC. DP holders may freelance or be self-employed only after converting to an EntrePass or obtaining a separate work pass. Children on DP can attend international schools but cannot enrol in national schools as local students (citizen/PR schools) without MOE approval. Singapore does not recognise same-sex marriages or partnerships for DP purposes.

Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP)

Eligibility

Parents, step-children, common-law spouses (where the couple cannot marry), and disabled or aged dependants of Singapore citizens or PRs. Also issued to foreign spouses of Singapore citizens whose marriage is genuine and of long standing — the LTVP for married couples is often the first step toward PR. LTVP+: enhanced pass for common-law/unmarried partners of citizens and PRs in long-term relationships.

💡 LTVP holders (for spouses of citizens) may apply for a work pass (Letter of Consent — LOC) or EntrePass. LTVP is often a pathway to PR for foreign spouses of Singapore citizens. Parents of citizens/PRs on LTVP cannot access MediShield Life or CPF — they need private health insurance.

Student's Pass

S$30 application fee; S$60 issuance fee

Duration: Duration of the course; renewable annually for multi-year programmes

Eligibility

Foreign nationals (non-citizens, non-PRs) accepted into a full-time course at a Singapore school or approved higher education institution (university, polytechnic, ITE, or private education institute with EduTrust certification). Part-time students and short courses (under 1 month) generally do not require a Student's Pass.

Processing time

4 weeks (once the institution submits the application through SOLAR)

💡 Student's Pass holders may work up to 16 hours per week during term time and full-time during semester breaks. After graduation from NUS/NTU/SMU or other approved institutions, graduates may apply for a Graduate's Pass (30-day temporary pass to seek employment) and then an Employment Pass if they secure a qualifying job offer.

No Official Digital Nomad Visa — Closest Options Explained

Digital Nomad

Duration: Social Visit Pass: 30–90 days per entry (most nationalities). WHP: 6 months (non-renewable).

Eligibility

Singapore has not introduced a dedicated digital nomad visa as of 2026. Options for remote workers: (1) Social Visit Pass (tourist entry): nationals from most developed countries can enter for 30–90 days without a visa. Working remotely for an overseas employer while on a Social Visit Pass is technically permitted — you are not employed by a Singapore company and not earning Singapore-source income. However, if you bill Singapore clients, perform work for a Singapore entity, or work from Singapore offices consistently, you may require a work pass. ICA has discretion to deny entry if you appear to be establishing residency. (2) Work Holiday Pass (WHP): for eligible countries and ages 18–25, allows 6 months work and holiday including remote work. (3) Employment Pass: if you are a high earner running your own company, an EntrePass may be possible; if employed by a Singapore company as a remote/hybrid worker, an EP is required.

💡 Singapore's high cost of living makes it less popular than Bali, Thailand, or Malaysia for long-stay digital nomads, but its infrastructure, safety, healthcare, and English-language environment make it attractive for those who can afford it. Short-stay (1–3 months) remote workers from developed countries typically use the Social Visit Pass without issue — ICA has not publicly targeted genuine remote workers. Long-term stays (3–6 months) with repeated re-entries may attract attention. There is no official guidance from ICA on the legality of remote work while on a Social Visit Pass — it exists in a legal grey area. The EntrePass is the most legitimate option for independent entrepreneurs and company founders who wish to base themselves in Singapore long-term.
