Visa-Free Access

Citizens of most Western countries can enter Venezuela without a prior visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. Visa-free nations include: USA, Canada, all EU member states, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Costa Rica, and most Caribbean nations. Citizens of Russia, China, Cuba, and some other countries may enter under bilateral agreements or require visas. Always verify current requirements with a Venezuelan consulate before travel as visa policy can change.

SAIME (Servicio Administrativo de Identificación, Migración y Extranjería) is the Venezuelan immigration authority — saime.gob.ve. Always register your presence with SAIME and obtain the correct documentation before your tourist period expires. Overstaying is a serious offence resulting in fines, deportation, and bans from re-entry. All foreign documents presented to Venezuelan authorities must be apostilled (Venezuela is party to the Hague Apostille Convention) and accompanied by a certified Spanish translation done by a translator registered with the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. US citizens should register with the US Embassy Smart Traveler Enrolment Program (STEP) at step.state.gov. The US Embassy in Caracas has limited consular services — some US citizen services are handled from Bogotá, Colombia.

Foreign nationals with a valid employment contract from a Venezuelan employer. Work permit (Permiso de Trabajo from MPPPTT) must be obtained first.

💡 Some remote workers use Venezuela as a base given the very low cost of living in USD terms. The absence of a formal framework means staying longer than 180 days in a year requires obtaining a formal residence permit.
