January Checklist
Actions to take each January when new rates take effect.
- 1
Check January payslip: verify new SV ceiling (€6,930/month), income tax deductions using updated brackets, and KV minimum wage.
- 2
Prescription fee is €7.55 (frozen from 2025, no increase) — update budget if you take regular medication.
- 3
Buy new year's Vignette (Autobahnpickerl) before old one expires — annual €106.80. Note: 2026 is the last year for the physical sticker.
- 4
Self-employed (SVS): review new SVS minimum contribution base and quarterly advance payment amounts at svs.at.
- 5
Parents: verify Familienbeihilfe payment amounts (frozen in 2026: €138.40/€148/€171.80/€200.40 by age group).
- 6
Pensioners: verify Pensionsanpassung appears correctly in January statement; minimum pension guarantee is now €1,308.39/month.
- 7
Renters: check if Mietzins includes annual CPI-linked increase (Wertsicherungsklausel) — January rent may legitimately rise.
- 8
ORF Beitrag: verify standing order reflects €15.30/month if not on direct debit.
- 9
Car owners: annual Vignette is now €106.80 — purchase before motorway driving.

Austria's Kalte-Progression-Abgeltung law (2022) automatically adjusts income tax brackets each year for two-thirds of inflation — preventing the silent real-terms tax increase known as "bracket creep." The 2026 adjustment of 1.733% was applied to all six brackets. Minimum wage in Austria is set through Kollektivverträge (collective agreements by sector), not a single national statutory minimum — your sector's effective minimum may differ from the general KV figure. Check your KV at wko.at. The 2026 adhesive vignette is the last physical sticker — from 2027, only digital vignettes will be available through asfinag.at.
