Barbados (BB)

Valid passport required for entry, work permit and Special Entry and Reside Permit (SERP) applications, bank KYC and all official processes. Keep certified copies and digital scans. Barbados requires at least 6 months passport validity for most permit processes.

Many nationalities enter Barbados visa-free for visits. Check your country's status with the Barbados Immigration Department before travel. Visitor permission does not authorise local employment. Citizens of CARICOM member states have special mobility rights.

Barbados's 12-month renewable digital nomad visa for remote workers employed by companies outside Barbados. Apply online at barbadoswelcomestamp.bb. Keep the approval and payment receipt for housing, school enrolment and bank discussions. The fee is USD 2,000 per person or USD 3,000 per family.

Required before non-Barbadian nationals work for or provide services to Barbados-registered employers or local clients. Applied for by the employer at the Barbados Immigration Department. Separate from the Welcome Stamp, which covers remote workers employed abroad.

Accepted forms include employment contracts, payslips, employer letters, business registration documents or freelance income evidence. The Welcome Stamp requires a minimum annual income of USD 50,000.

Required for some immigration permit categories and strongly recommended for all expats. Barbados has a public healthcare system (Queen Elizabeth Hospital and polyclinics) but private health insurance is expected for expat access to private hospitals and medical evacuation. Confirm your policy covers air ambulance to the USA or UK.

Employees in Barbados must register with the National Insurance Scheme (NIS). Contributions cover sickness, maternity, injury and retirement benefits. Keep NIS contribution records for benefit claims and any home-country pension portability applications. Employers handle registration.

Register with the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) for a Tax Identification Number and access to the TAMIS (Tax Administration Management Information System) online portal. Required for personal income tax (PIT), PAYE, VAT compliance, land tax and any corporate obligations. Register at bra.gov.bb.

Visitors may drive on a valid foreign licence with an International Driving Permit (IDP) for up to 1 year. For long-term residents, a Barbados driving licence must be obtained from the Licensing Authority. Barbados drives on the left. Bring your driving history record for insurance purposes.

Required for importing cats and dogs into Barbados. Core documents: import permit from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Nutritional Security, current rabies vaccination record, microchip certificate and an official veterinary health certificate. Barbados may require a quarantine period depending on origin country. Confirm requirements at least 30 days before travel.
