Foreigners normally secure work through employers, NGOs, schools, companies, recruiters, or networks. Work permit and foreign employment card applications are handled through FWCMS by employers, representatives, or self-employed applicants.

💼 Work Permits

EU Citizens

EU citizens have no special work rights. They need an ordinary visa/extension and work permit like other non-Cambodian nationals.

Non-EU Citizens

Foreigners working in Cambodia need a valid passport, appropriate visa/extension, employer/company support, and foreign work permit/employment card through MoLVT/FWCMS.

EU Blue Card

There is no EU Blue Card equivalent; skilled workers use EB extensions and work permits.

Freelancer Visa

There is no clean digital-nomad visa. Self-employed workers should use the FWCMS self-employed route, company registration, or other documented business structure where appropriate.

⏱️ Work Culture

Typical hours Many offices work Monday-Friday or Monday-Saturday morning. Standard labour-law hours are commonly 8 hours/day and 48 hours/week.

Annual leave Annual leave is generally 1.5 days per month of continuous service, plus Cambodia has many public holidays.

Sick leave Sick leave is commonly contract/policy-based; medical certificates are important. NSSF can matter for work injury and healthcare access.

Trial period Probation is often 1-3 months depending on role and contract.

Notice period Notice depends on contract type and length of service. Keep written resignation/termination records.

Salary range English teacher USD 800-2,500/month; NGO/professional USD 1,200-4,000; senior country roles USD 4,000-8,000+; local admin/service roles much lower.

Pay frequency Monthly, usually by bank transfer for formal employers.
