Public Transport Overview

Dhaka transport mixes metro rail, buses, CNG auto-rickshaws, ride-hailing cars, rickshaws and private drivers. Metro Rail Line 6 is the cleanest predictable corridor, but coverage is limited, so most expats combine ride-hailing, office transport and walking only in selected areas.

Taxi & Rideshare

Metered taxis are limited. CNGs often negotiate fares unless booked through apps. For reliability and safety, expats usually use ride-hailing or employer drivers.

Rideshare (Long-distance)

Uber and Pathao are common in Dhaka and Chattogram. Confirm plate, driver, route and payment method before getting in; traffic can make short rides long.

Cycling

Cycling is risky in Dhaka traffic and pollution. Use only quiet residential areas, parks or organised groups unless you are highly experienced.

Intercity Trains

Bangladesh Railway connects major cities, but tickets sell out around Eid, Puja and holidays. Domestic flights save time for Chattogram, Sylhet and Cox's Bazar.

Driving

Traffic is left-side but highly informal. Most expats use a professional driver rather than self-drive in Dhaka. No winter tyre requirement.

Airports

Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC) serves Dhaka. Allow large buffers for traffic, immigration, baggage and security queues, especially before Eid or evening peaks.
