💡 Integration Tips

• ✓ Learn Spanish seriously — unlike some other expat destinations, English proficiency is genuinely limited outside Bogotá business districts, El Poblado (Medellín), and tourist zones. Even basic Spanish transforms your experience and opens doors to genuine friendships with Colombians.
• ✓ Colombians are warm and family-oriented — be patient with social arrangements; "hora colombiana" (arriving 30–60 minutes late) is real. Adjust your expectations for punctuality in social (not business) settings.
• ✓ Fútbol is the national religion — following a local team (Club Nacional de Medellín, Independiente Medellín, Millonarios or Santa Fe in Bogotá) is a powerful integration tool. Stadium atmosphere is electric and safe in modern facilities.
• ✓ Explore beyond the expat bubble — El Poblado and Chapinero are comfortable but not representative of Colombian life. Try barrios like Laureles/Envigado (Medellín) or La Candelaria/La Macarena (Bogotá) for more authentic experiences.
