Dual citizenship is allowed — Foreign nationals who naturalise as Czech citizens are NOT required to renounce their original nationality — dual citizenship is permitted for incoming naturalisations. The important distinction runs in the other direction: Czech citizens who voluntarily acquire a foreign citizenship may automatically lose their Czech citizenship, unless they applied before age 18 or are acquiring the citizenship of another EU member state. 2025 change: Russian nationals must renounce their Russian citizenship before submitting a Czech citizenship application (law signed February 2025). Children born to one Czech parent abroad may hold dual citizenship; they are generally not required to choose at age 21 under the 2013 law.
