Digital Services

Digital ID, e-government and essential apps in Czech Republic.

eObčanka (Electronic ID Card)

The Czech electronic ID card (občanský průkaz with chip) functions as a digital identity for signing documents, accessing government services, and authenticating online. The NIA (National Identity Authority) manages the authentication infrastructure. Portál občana (portal.gov.cz) is the main citizen portal.

How to get it: Czech citizens receive the electronic ID at the municipal office. Requires setting a PIN for the chip. The Mobilní klíč eGov app (available on iOS and Android) allows using your identity on your smartphone without the physical card reader. Foreigners with Czech residence permits can access some services through NIA authentication via other means.

E-Government Portal

Czech e-government is well-developed and expanding rapidly. Datová schránka (data mailbox) is mandatory for all businesses and increasingly used for government-citizen communication. Identity authentication uses NIA (National Identity Authority) — login via Mobilní klíč eGov, eObčanka chip, or bank identity (BankID). BankID (available from major Czech banks) is a user-friendly way to authenticate to government portals using your banking app.
