Greenland (GL)

Required for travel, immigration status, banking, employment onboarding and government services. Nordic citizens (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden) have special mobility rights within the Nordic region including Greenland.

Most non-Nordic foreign workers need a permit valid for Greenland specifically, issued by SIRI (Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration). A permit valid for Denmark or the Schengen area alone does not cover Greenland.

Required for SIRI work permit applications, housing arrangements, municipal tax registration and bank onboarding in Greenland.

The Danish CPR (Central Person Register) number is required for tax, healthcare access, bank accounts, payroll and public services once legally registered as a Greenland resident.

Required for correct withholding and municipal tax treatment. Greenland has its own tax authority (Skattestyrelsen Grønland / TAST) separate from Danish SKAT.

Lease agreement, employer-provided housing letter or municipal housing document; required for CPR registration, banking and public services.

Required for dependants, family reunification applications, school enrolment and estate matters. Denmark (covering Greenland) is a Hague Apostille member; documents from Hague member countries use apostille. Non-member country documents require embassy legalisation.

Required for regulated roles in healthcare, teaching, skilled trades and permit applications. Recognition is handled by the relevant Danish ministry or profession regulator. Certified Danish translation required for non-Danish/non-English documents.

Commonly required for sensitive roles, immigration applications, childcare, healthcare and security-sector employment. Apostille from Hague member countries; embassy legalisation for non-member country documents.

EU/EEA licences are exchanged directly at the local municipal office. Non-EU licences from countries with bilateral agreements may be exchanged after a practical test; others require a full Danish driving test. Confirm current rules with Politiet Grønland or the local municipal office.

Required for GP registration, school enrolment, remote community postings and private insurance underwriting. Greenland's health service (Dronning Ingrids Hospital, Nuuk) provides primary care to residents.

Required before bringing pets; travel routes typically pass through Denmark or Iceland. EU pet passport rules apply. Confirm import requirements with the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration (Fødevarestyrelsen) and the airline.
