12-digit biometric national identity number issued by UIDAI. Foreigners residing in India for 182+ days are eligible to apply. Required for SIM card registration, some banking services, and government scheme access. Apply at Aadhaar enrolment centres with residence proof. Helpful but not mandatory for expats.

Required for Employment Visa application, some professional licence applications, and employer verification. Original degrees from foreign universities should ideally be apostilled. Certified English translations required if in other languages.

Required for spousal Dependent Visa (X Visa) application, OCI card for spouse, and joint bank accounts. Foreign marriage certificates should be apostilled and translated into English.

Some visa categories (Employment Visa for certain nationalities) and long-term stays require a medical certificate from a recognised doctor. Yellow fever vaccination certificate required if travelling from endemic countries.

India does not generally require quarantine if documentation is complete.
Required as proof of address for almost all Indian government services (FRRO, PAN, Aadhaar, bank). 11-month agreements are most common (to avoid mandatory stamp duty registration for 12+ months). Have landlord sign and stamp the agreement. Some FRRO offices require registered agreements.
📜 What is an Apostille?
An apostille is an official certification that validates a document for international use. It is issued by a designated authority in the country where the document was issued (usually a court or government office). Required for documents from Hague Convention member states.
🌍 Certified Translations
Certified translations must be done by a sworn/authorised translator. In India, only translations by officially registered translators are accepted by government offices. Keep originals — they may be returned after verification.
