💼 Work Permits
EU citizens require an Employment Visa for paid work in India — there is no EU-specific work arrangement with India. Same rules apply as for non-EU foreigners. OCI holders (many of Indian origin) are exempt from work visa requirements.
Employment Visa required. Employer must sponsor. Minimum salary: USD $25,000/year (or INR equivalent) — generally not waivable except for specific categories. Visa issued for 1–5 years, renewable annually at FRRO. Must register with FRRO within 14 days if staying >180 days.
India does not participate in any Blue Card system. No points-based or fast-track skilled worker visa exists.
India has no specific digital nomad or freelancer visa. OCI holders can work freely including as freelancers. Non-OCI foreigners working as freelancers for Indian clients need appropriate work authorisation. Remote workers for foreign clients in their home country working from India on Tourist/Business Visa is a grey area — formally tourist activities don't include work, but remote work for a foreign employer is not explicitly prohibited.
