Ireland (IE)
Ireland is a parliamentary republic and island nation on the western edge of Europe — the only English-speaking country in the Eurozone — celebrated for its warmly welcoming culture and legendary pub life, dramatic Wild Atlantic Way coastline and emerald green rolling countryside, a remarkable literary tradition from Joyce to Beckett, and its role as the European headquarters for the world's leading technology companies including Google, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, and LinkedIn.
Digital Services
Digital ID, e-government and essential apps in Ireland.
MyGovID
MyGovID is Ireland's national digital identity system, operated by the Department of Social Protection. Two levels: (1) Basic MyGovID: created with email + PPS number for access to some online services. (2) Verified MyGovID: higher security, requires in-person identity verification at a DSP/Intreo office with photo ID and PPS number. Verified MyGovID unlocks access to all major government services including Revenue myAccount, MyWelfare.ie, and a growing range of other portals.
How to get it: Create a basic account at mygovid.ie with your email and PPS number. For verified account: visit a DSP office (bring passport/national ID and PPS number), or use the MyGovID app to complete identity verification digitally (if you already have a Public Services Card). Biometric verification via the app is being rolled out.
E-Government Portal
https://www.gov.ieIrish e-government services require a verified MyGovID or PPS number for most transactions. The gov.ie portal aggregates access to all government services. Revenue myAccount is particularly important — PAYE workers should set this up immediately to ensure correct tax credits and review their tax position annually.

Ireland's digital government infrastructure, while improving significantly, is not as advanced as some EU counterparts. The Public Services Card (PSC) is being phased out in favour of MyGovID as the primary digital identity tool. The transition to verified MyGovID requires an in-person verification step — plan this early as it is required for the most important services including Revenue myAccount with full functionality. Eircodes (Irish postcodes) are essential — every address in Ireland has a unique Eircode; register yours at eircode.ie.
