✈️ Visa-Free Access
EU/EEA/Swiss citizens can live and work in Lithuania without a visa or work permit — just register residence within 3 months. Citizens of the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, UK (post-Brexit), and most Western countries can visit Lithuania visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period (Schengen rules apply). For stays exceeding 90 days or to work, an appropriate permit is required. Check migris.lt for the current list of countries requiring visas for entry. Lithuania is a Schengen member — the 90/180 day rule applies across all Schengen countries combined, not just Lithuania.
All Lithuanian immigration matters are handled by the Migration Department (Migracijos departamentas — migris.lt). Applications are submitted online or at Migration Department offices. Vilnius has the main office plus several service points. Processing times vary by permit type and workload — apply well in advance of any expiry. Lithuania is a strong choice for non-EU professionals entering the EU due to competitive labour costs, English-friendly business environment, growing tech and fintech sector, and the EU Blue Card route. Note: Lithuania borders Belarus and the Kaliningrad oblast (Russia) — land border crossings require valid Schengen documents. The geopolitical situation since 2022 has heightened security awareness at Lithuanian borders but does not affect internal EU travel.

No dedicated digital nomad visa
Digital NomadLithuania has no dedicated digital nomad visa as of 2026. EU/EEA nationals have full freedom of movement and may work remotely without any permit — simply register at the Migration Department within 3 months of arrival. Non-EU/EEA remote workers and freelancers can apply for the Temporary Residence Permit for self-employment, which requires registering a Lithuanian business entity (UAB private limited company — €1 minimum capital since 2022).
EU/EEA registration: 5–10 business days. Non-EU self-employment TRP: 2–4 months at migris.lt.
