👶 Childcare & Kindergarten
Apply directly to private centres; provide birth certificate, immunisation record, parent IDs/passports and deposit.
No-fee public schools and fee exemptions may apply for qualifying households.
Apply through provincial online admissions where available or directly to school.
Use reputable agencies, check references and register employment obligations if direct employee.
🏫 Schools
Public-school admissions are provincial and address-linked in many areas. Provide birth certificate, immunisation record, proof of address, parent documents, previous reports and visa/study status for foreign learners.
Apply early with reports, transfer card, proof of address, birth certificate/passport and study/residence documents. Grade 8 applications in Gauteng and Western Cape are competitive.
🌍 International Schools
International options include American International School of Johannesburg (AISJ; annual fees R186,200–703,494 depending on grade, plus new-student capital fee ~R185,200 one-off), German International School Johannesburg/Pretoria/Cape Town, French schools, British-style schools, Crawford/Redhill/Reddam networks and Cambridge/IB providers. Fees range from R150,000 for budget private schools to over R700,000/year at premium international schools. Budget separately for enrolment, transport, activities and one-time capital fees.
🎓 University
Apply directly to universities such as UCT, Wits, Stellenbosch, Pretoria, UKZN, Rhodes, UJ or through CAO for some KwaZulu-Natal institutions. Foreign school results may need SAQA/Matriculation Board exemption.
🗣️ Language Courses
Useful for family members entering English-medium schools or universities.
Helpful in Western Cape, Northern Cape, parts of Gauteng and professional settings with Afrikaans clients.
