Payment Culture
The UAE is rapidly becoming cashless. Credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard) are accepted almost universally. Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay are widely used. Cash is still preferred for taxis, small souks, and some traditional restaurants. Carry AED 100–200 for emergencies.
ATM Tips
ATMs are plentiful in malls, petrol stations, and near metro stations. Most charge no fee for international cards. Emirates NBD, ADCB, and FAB machines are most common. Avoid airport exchange counters — use Wise or your bank app for conversions.
Exchange Tips
The AED is pegged to the USD at 3.6725, making exchange rates very stable. Al Ansari Exchange and Al Fardan Exchange offer competitive rates in malls. Avoid hotel exchanges.
