📋 Relocation Process
Step 1: Microchip your pet (ISO 15-digit chip, implanted before rabies vaccination). Step 2: Administer all required vaccinations and record in official health documentation. Step 3: Apply for MOCCAE import permit at least 4–6 weeks before travel (moccae.gov.ae). Upload vaccination records, microchip certificate, and passport/visa information. Step 4: Obtain an official government health certificate from your country's agricultural/veterinary authority, issued within 10 days of travel. Step 5: Book a pet-friendly flight (cargo hold or cabin depending on pet size). Step 6: Upon arrival, present all documents at Dubai or Abu Dhabi airport pet clearance. Pet is inspected and cleared. Register pet with Dubai Municipality or Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) within 30 days of arrival.
Cats and dogs are the most commonly imported pets. Birds, reptiles, rodents, and exotic animals have significantly more complex import requirements and some are outright prohibited. Always use an IATA-accredited pet relocation agent for birds and exotic pets. During UAE summer (June–September), many airlines prohibit pets in cargo hold due to extreme heat — plan your move in cooler months if possible (October–April).
