Digital Services
Digital ID, e-government and essential apps in Uruguay.
ID Uruguay
Uruguay's national digital identity platform (id.gub.uy) — single sign-on for all government digital services. Similar to Estonia's e-Residency model. Required for filing taxes online, accessing BPS pension history, DGI services, IMM municipal permits, and most government portals.
How to get it: Register at id.gub.uy with your Cédula de Identidad number and a valid email address. Verify identity in person at a SUCIVE/BPS/IMM point or digitally via the Video Identification Service (video llamada). Most expats with a cédula can complete registration fully online. Two-factor authentication (SMS/TOTP) strongly recommended.
E-Government Portal
https://www.gub.uygub.uy is the unified government portal and is well-maintained by regional standards. Most services accessible with an ID Uruguay account. Some services still require in-person visits for first-time enrollment. Spanish language only — Google Translate browser extension is practical for expats.
