🐕 Dog Tax / Registration
There is no mandatory municipal dog registration tax in Jordan. Microchip registration with the Jordan Pet Registry or your vet's database is strongly recommended.
Recommended vets in Amman: Animal Hospital of Jordan (Abdoun), Amman Vet Clinic (Sweifieh), Jordan University Hospital Veterinary Teaching Clinic. Emergency vet services are available in Amman. No mandatory municipal pet registration in Jordan.
📋 Relocation Process
Step 1: Microchip your pet (ISO 11784/11785 compliant 15-digit chip) — must be done before the rabies vaccination for the vaccine to count. Step 2: Complete rabies vaccination at least 21 days before travel. Step 3: Obtain an International Health Certificate from an accredited veterinarian in your home country, endorsed by the government veterinary authority (e.g. APHA in UK, USDA in USA). Step 4: Authenticate the health certificate at the Jordanian Embassy in your home country. Step 5: Apply in advance (2–4 weeks) to the Ministry of Agriculture Veterinary Directorate (moa.gov.jo) for an import permit. Step 6: On arrival at Queen Alia International Airport, present all documents to the Ministry of Agriculture veterinary office. Allow 2–4 hours for customs and veterinary clearance.
Cats and dogs are the most commonly imported pets. Exotic animals face strict restrictions — contact the Ministry of Agriculture in advance. Some residential buildings restrict pets — check your rental contract before committing. When leaving Jordan with your pet, you will need an up-to-date international health certificate issued by a Jordan-approved vet and endorsed by the Jordanian Ministry of Agriculture. Allow at least 2 weeks for export certificate processing.
