Social Security in Jordan
Benefits, contributions, and how the system works for expats.
Jordan's social security system is administered by the Social Security Corporation (SSC — المؤسسة العامة للضمان الاجتماعي). Established in 1978, the SSC provides pension, work injury, disability, maternity, and death benefits. All private-sector employees in Jordan — Jordanian and most non-Jordanian nationals — are mandatorily enrolled. The SSC is funded by employer and employee contributions based on a percentage of gross salary. Employee contribution: 7.5%. Employer contribution: 14.25%.

International Social Security Agreements
Jordan has bilateral social security (totalization) agreements with approximately 20 countries: UK, Egypt, Palestine, Syria, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Iraq, Libya, Tunisia, Morocco, and others. Under these agreements, contribution periods may be aggregated to meet pension entitlement thresholds in either country. Verify your country's status at ssc.gov.jo.
Non-Jordanian employees are enrolled in SSC mandatory social insurance by their Jordanian employers — contributions are not optional. Your employer registers you automatically within the first month of employment. Keep all SSC contribution records throughout your time in Jordan. If your home country has no bilateral agreement, you may be entitled to a refund of your employee contributions (7.5% only) on departure from Jordan. Contact SSC directly or via ssc.gov.jo.
